Gullfoss, an extraordinary sight that is part of Iceland’s most famous tourist attraction, the golden circle is actually two waterfalls at different heights that run into one gorgeous gorge.
Most recognised as the waterfall at the start of the movie ‘Prometheus’ it is definitely something that you cannot miss during a visit to Iceland. The country is known to be cold, which is definitely true when I went in February. In the summer the snow melts and the sun shines, but a coat is still advised as there is a short walk down to Gulfoss as well as a stairway, and the whipping wind does make it chilly.
The walk down is pretty icy in winter – but is all worth it for the fantastic views, and is genuinely breath-taking. Of course, there is a cafe at the top with warm food and stocked up with souvenirs and clothes to fulfill your every need.
